Need Khmer Font for User Interface

There are two kind of fonts to use with electronic device, such as Computer and Mobile Phone.

1) Writing Font: This font use for writing purpose, we use them to process documents...then print to paper. There are many kind of these fonts today.

2) System Font (UI Font): This font for use to display in the system, such as Tips, icon, menu....
This font need to fit the Latin Glyph. Because User Interface could not be changed, we need to make Khmer UI font to fit the User Interface.

UI font need to be clear, visible in every aspect, good hint that can see very clear at small or big size.

Microsoft also make one Khmer System font call Khmer UI, but the problem is the shape of glyphs are ugly.

We need Khmer System font for iPhone as well. This font needs height the same as Latin, readable at small or big size, good shape... But we have to find the solution: How to make it the same height as Latin and readable?

Khmer

wow. I didn't know that there are two kind of fonts. Thanks for the info.

This is really a difficult issue. I saw your suggestion in khmeriphone project issue. That's a good idea. But the English and Khmer base line are different.
If we don't give it a try we won't know.

Why can't we convert Khmer OS Siemreap font into a system font? I use a program changes the Windows XP system font to display Khmer OS Siemreap and when I watch youtube videos that have Khmer unicode titles or listen to songs that have Khmer Unicode titles, the windows taskbar display in fully readable and beautiful Khmer font, which is just about almost near the same height as the latin script. Khmer OS Siemreap font in bold letters do not read as easily as unbold letters.

Or better yet, what if we make Khmer OS Siemreap into a system font for both display in English and Khmer? My computer renders both script with little difference in vertical height and it looks very beautiful, even when its in small print.

Khmer OS Siemreap is the one used today for fonts in the khmeriphone package. And It has always been since first version.
The problem is not the height of the character it self. It is the height of the character + sub/sup script.
So I had to reduce the size vs the latin character.

PS: Good translation ;)
